Family-friendly beaches to visit during the summer holidays

Florida, the beautiful Sunshine State, is riddled with hundreds of miles of wonderful sandy beaches – 1,197 in fact. A trip to the beach is a must on any family holiday but when you’re travelling with children there are a few things you have to consider before you head towards golden sands.

Do they have lifeguards? Will you be able to find a toilet? Is the water calm? Parents have to worry about many things so, to make life a little bit easier, we’ve selected some of Florida’s best family-friendly beaches for you.

Deerfield Beach

Where: Broward City

Lifeguards line the beach and there are plenty of playgrounds and family-friendly restaurants along the shore of Deerfield. Water sports are popular here, and the Island Water Sports shop offers free surfing lessons on Saturdays too!

Clearwater Beach

Where: Clearwater

$30 million has recently been spent on Clearwater Beach and the renovation has made it a popular destination for locals and holiday makers. There’s plenty of things to do with children, including skim boarding, kite-flying and dolphin cruises. Gentle waves and warm waters make the beach ideal for younger children and the entire family will love the street performers and carnival atmosphere at Sunsets at Pier 60.

Fort Walton Beach

Where: Okaloosa Island

With golden beaches and emerald waters, Fort Walton is one of Florida’s finest beaches. Perfect for building sandcastles, the beach is always full of children enjoying their time in the sand. The beachside grill has a private, roped-off area for children and the Gulfarium, just past the pier, will entertain kids for hours. Watch the sea lions and dolphins play in the water and the aquarium hosts interactive, educational shows where children can learn about sharks, stingrays and otters.

Fort De Soto Park

Where: Tierra Verde

Two separate white beaches can be found in Fort De Soto Park. The entire area is great for families, with camping, kayaking, canoeing and fishing being some of the most popular activities. The North Beach is best for children, with a great pirate ship playground welcoming you near the entrance. The sands are scattered with shells for children to collect and a tidal pool will keep kids entertained and cool for hours.

The beautiful, serene coastlines of Florida ensure that even adults will love these family-friendly beaches. It might be difficult to catch a moment to yourself to relax, but with stunning views you can guarantee you’ll both have a fun-filled, enjoyable stay!
