Winter in Florida is nothing like we know it here in the UK. Occasionally, you’ll see highs of 20 and above from December through ’til March, but temperatures can also drop to a brisk 5 degrees. Packing can be a bit more complex, and you’ll want to make sure you plan activities for those woolly jumper days.
Here’s a few of our favourite indoor activities for families and adults to enjoy in Florida this winter.
With two locations in Florida, Wonderworks is a great place to take children. The indoor theme park can be found in Orlando or Panama City Beach, and it aims to make learning fun.
Both locations have six different educational zones to explore, alongside an indoor ropes challenge, 4D XD simulator ride and a laser tag arena.
Kids can create gigantic bubbles in the Bubble Lab, land a replica of NASA’s Discovery space shuttle in the Space Zone and be dazzled by a variety of optical illusions in the Far Out Gallery. They’ll love the Hurricane Shack too, where the force of 74 miles per hour winds will blow them away. There’s plenty to keep the kids entertained all day at Wonderworks, and it’s a great place to visit on a rainy day.
Skydive no matter what the weather is like with a visit to iFLY in Orlando. Run by experienced staff, the indoor skydiving company offers activities suitable for all ages. There’s no need to jump out of a plane to experience the thrill, you can simply head to the flight chamber and enjoy the feeling of free-falling through the air.
Visitors can fly alone or in a group, and both beginners and sky-diving pros will find flights that will challenge and exhilarate.
Walt Disney World
There’s plenty to enjoy at Disney, even in cold unpredictable weather.
Head to Hollywood Studios, where almost all of the attractions are indoors. Guests will find The Great Movie Ride, the Rock ‘n’ Roller coaster and the stomach-churning Tower of Terror here, as well as collection of magical stage shows that change season to season. Children can meet their favourite characters and sing-along to their favourite Disney songs too.
Star Wars is currently taking centre-stage, and visitors will discover an entire collection of inspired entertainment and experiences that will take them to a galaxy far, far away.
Disney Springs is another must-visit during the winter in Florida. The AMC theatre will keep the entire family entertained for hours, showing some of the latest movies. Make sure you book a ticket to the La Nouba, the Cirque du Soleil show in Disney Springs, it’s certainly not to be missed! The show features colourful costumes, breakdancing, aerial ballet and a flying trapeze.
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
Every aspiring astronaut should visit the Kennedy Space Center’s visitor complex. Take a tour around historic launch sites, learn more about the Apollo moon landing, meet astronauts and get up-close and personal with the largest rocket ever flown.
With an entire collection of films, talks and tours, it’s easy to spend to spend a few days thoroughly exploring the Center.
