Florida’s beautiful sunshine and incredible scenery ensures that whether you’re a water sports pro or just a casual walker, there’s a reason to go exploring during your holiday in the Sunshine State. In this section we’ll take you through some of the most popular local activities and the best places to participate – as well as our favourite locations off the beaten track.

As you might expect from a state with approximately 1,350 miles of coastline, water sports are a hugely popular pastime. Get out on the water and join those jet-skiing and surfing on the waves, or join a snorkelling trip around the Florida Keys to see the stunning coral reefs under the surface. It’s not just the beach that promises a good time if you want to get wet – take an airboat through the marshlands, go kayaking on the Walluka River, or take it easy with a spot of fishing.

If you’d rather keep both feet on solid ground, there are plenty of opportunities for land-based discovery, too – check out our recommendations for hiking and cycling, as well as driving routes to see as much of the area as possible. Alternatively, get a bird’s eye view with the fantastic opportunities to get up into the skies – whatever your limit is, Florida can take you there!
