The Best Breweries in Orlando
Around twenty years ago, Orlando Brewing Company opened in Florida, and this marks the beginning of what’s now a thriving craft beer scene in the city. With warm weather all year round, the huge success of the brewing industry in this state makes total sense – after all, there’s no better way to cool off than sipping a frosty, refreshing stein of beer. There are heaps of breweries in Orlando, all with different beers and techniques to offer, but here a few of our favourites for the big beer-lovers to try…
1301 Atlanta Ave, Orlando, FL 32806
Perhaps the most influential brewery in the city, Orlando Brewing Company prides itself on serving ‘darn good beer’ that adheres to the German Purity Law (aka, the Reinheitsgebot). This means they stick to four organic ingredients: hops, water, yeast and malted barley. The only exceptions to this rule are the beers in The Violator Series, which boast extra flavours like coffee, dark chocolate and pumpkin.
Regular OBC beers range from a light, crisp lager named La Güera right through to Eminent Domain, a dark and fruity Scottish ale. Orlando Brewing Company hosts free tours at 6pm daily, from Monday to Saturday, but they don’t take bookings, so its first come first serve! They also have regular beer and food pairings, as well as being a venue for yoga, music and more.
2500 Curry Ford Rd Ste 4, Orlando, FL 32806
Known for ‘turning outlandish ideas into nuanced, drinkable brews’, Hourglass Brewing is all about pairing bold ingredients with the traditional. Amongst their beer showcase, you’ll find fun brews like Honeybell Wit, a Belgian-style beer with a twist of toasted coriander, and Giant Giant Dwarf, a hearty stout infused with espresso and vanilla beans.
If you favour the more conventional blends, there are plenty of those too. Try a powerful English Brown Beer, a sweet and malty red Irish Curse or the lighter Longwood Landbier Lager. There are some great standing weekly events to enjoy too, like Bingo Night, Nacho Average Sunday and Wild Fridays.
1010 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL 32803
With a strapline like ‘blood, sweat and beers’, Ten10 Brewing Company puts hard work, friendship and community front and centre. You’ll find plenty of offers and events in their casual, comfortable taproom, including Happy Hour between 6pm and 8pm from Monday to Thursday, and a weekly Trivia Night! The generous selection of beers ranges from the citrusy Belgian-style White Ryno to the dark and creamy Havakow milk stout, and there are seasonal specials to look forward to as well.
The kitchen is a real highlight at Ten10, as there’s tempting menu packed with snacks, sandwiches and sides. You can build your own hot dog with up to five delicious toppings, try an iconic American grilled cheese or indulge in a charcuterie board to pair with your beer.
1012 West Church St, Orlando, FL 32805
This ‘music inspired craft brewery’ was founded by third-generation brewer Chris Frizzell, and it’s a must-visit if you want to sample the friendly, hipster side of Orlando’s nightlife. Come along and enjoy some of the best hand-pulled beer in the city while you listen to a selection of local live artists; you could even have a go yourself at the open mic!
On tap you’ll find all sorts of brews, from dark IPAs like Liquid Vinyl to an Oktoberfest lager like 99 Luftballons, there’s bound to be something to tickle your taste buds. In the mood for something fruity? Go for a margarita sour like Livin’ the Lime Life, or try Orange Avenue, an orange creamsicle milkshake IPA brewed especially for Orlando Beer Festival.
